NEW YORK (Reuters) - Two window washers who were trapped for more than an hour on a jammed platform 45 stories above New York City were rescued by firefighters who pulled them through a window.
Firefighters cut out a 4-foot by 4-foot piece from a glass panel on the 44th floor for the workers to climb into the 46-story Hearst Tower in Manhattan.
The workers were washing windows when the platform got stuck about 500 feet above the ground. A call for help came in to the fire department at about 2:30 p.m., said Emily Rahimi, spokeswoman for the city's fire department.
An investigation is under way by the New York Department of Buildings and other agencies.
About 60 firefighters from 12 companies rushed to the skyscraper to rescue the crew.
