I spent a lot of time on these and I must say they are very good.
I edited equipment to a crazy amount of detail, attempted to find all the correct faces/skin tone/hair, corrected height/weight, edited ratings to where I felt they were more appropriate, fixed jersey numbers (when possible), fixed hometowns, fixed the depth chart, took off any players no longer on the program and added what I felt were important freshmen/transfers.
All other teams are named as well but I only edited Arizona in detail.

Mophie Juice Pack Reserve for iPhone 4/4S review
While many tech buffs will spend more time researching a future purchase than they do using the gadget they eventually buy, sometimes the best pick-ups are the last minute ones.
These last minute grabs are often made to solve an immediate problem, and a common problem for smartphone users is running out of juice in the middle of the day.
If you're an iPhone deployer who leans towards bouts of heavy usage, you may well be familiar with the depleting battery scenario. Thankfully, Mophie's extensive line of on-the-go charging solutions includes cases with integrated backup batteries - Juice Packs, in the manufacturer's parlance. The Juice Pack Plus is well regarded in iPhone circles, despite adding considerable bulk and pushing the weight of an iPhone 4S close to 200g.
The pocket-sized Mophie Juice Pack Reserve is another, more compact option to ensure you don't run out of power at the wrong time. It offers a modest 700mAh battery, far smaller than its stablemate, the Juice Pack Plus, which features a 2,000mAh battery.
However, the Juice Pack Reserve's real strength is its portability - it measures just 80.2 x 40.8 x 16.2mm and weighs only 40g. Those of us who misspent our youth fag in hand will immediately spot how the Reserve resembles a Zippo lighter, complete with flip-off top that reveals a 30-pin connector. In addition to being eminently pocketable, it's also a stylish toy ? the rubberised grip feels great in the hand, and the do-gooding RED model looks especially slick.
So where you wouldn't necessarily sport the bulky Juice Pack Plus on a night out, the Reserve effortlessly slides into your pocket - a quick-fix charging solution that will replenish roughly half your battery life, based on our testing. You'll be able to phone in that crucial goodnight call, text the mates you lost earlier on, and then Hailo a cab home - all of which are just as important as picking up emails from your boss.
That said, the Mophie Juice Pack Reserve is not without its downsides. While the USB connector tucks away cleverly into the main frame of the device ? la Swiss Army knife, this design can prove fiddly when it comes to charging and lacks the versatility of an extension cord.
Elsewhere, the battery status indicator ? activated via a button on the bottom left of the Reserve's body - isn't hugely informative. Where the Mophie Juice Pack Plus features multiple LED lights to indicate various levels of charge, the Reserve offers a single LED that's either green (full), red (less than full), or blank (empty).
We also found the 30-pin iPhone connector to be a bit wiggly when actually plugged into an iPhone. The key ring attachment, which makes the Reserve more convenient for some, snapped off in a worryingly short time. Finally, unlike similar pocket-sized mobile charging solutions, the Reserve can't sync your iDevice while it charges, nor can you flirt with pass-through charging.
All of which makes it amazing that we've fallen in love with the Juice Pack Reserve. Despite an acute recognition of its faults, we found it a genuinely useful iPhone companion for daily use.
The best bit is that, compared to other Mophie gadgets, it's eminently affordable - a mere ?30 compared to the ?80+ you'd be looking at for a Juice Pack Plus. For professional situations, the Juice Pack Plus is still the only way to go, but the Reserve is a better-than-average sidekick, especially outside of the office. In fact, some pros may even find it a more attractive all round option that its big brother.

Report: Texas Rangers could consider trading Joe Nathan
CLEVELAND ? As the Rangers try to get creative to find a bat and upgrade the team, they?ve had some internal brainstorming sessions that include trading the most efficient closer in MLB history: Joe Nathan.
According to a report from FOX Sports? Ken Rosenthal, the Rangers have discussed the idea as a way to leverage other contending teams for offensive help.
The idea would be that if a contending team was desperate enough for late-inning help, it might be willing to surrender offensive depth that would help the Rangers. The Rangers, who could have pitchers Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison and Neftali Feliz, coming back from the DL in the next month could have a surplus of relief pitching. Harrison or Lewis could push Alexi Ogando back to the bullpen and Feliz will return as a reliever.
According to the report, teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox would all be among those interested in late-inning relief. It is unlikely, however, the Rangers would consider moving Nathan to a fellow AL contender. The Dodgers, with five outfielders, could be a potential match if they were willing to give up somebody like Andre Ethier.

?I think everyone will be satisfied with the ending where we hug it out and all is forgiven,?? star Bryan Cranston, who plays Walter White (aka Heisenberg), joked to reporters at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour on Friday.
?Don?t tell them about the musical number ...,? co-star Betsy Brandt chimed in.
As the AMC hit prepares to end its run when it returns for the final episodes next month, big questions remain: Just how much good is left in the chemistry teacher turned meth king? And how much bad is left in Walt's right-hand man, Jesse Pinkman?
?(Jesse's) just emptied out. He just wants to stay as far away from Walt as possible,? Aaron Paul told reporters of his character. ?Walt?s true colors were definitely revealed to him towards the end of the last season. He?s terrified of this man. He wants nothing to do with him and he wants to stay out of the business if he can.
?Walt has a large reservoir of good to be shared with everyone else as he spreads his joy throughout the last eight episodes,? Cranston shot back.
The change from good to bad has been gradual but major for Walt. While it used to be Jesse who did the bad deeds while Walt cooked the blue stuff, the one-time teacher is no longer in the backseat. He kills when he needs ? and sometimes when he doesn't need to (RIP, Mike) ? often putting innocent people in harm's way. (Remember Brock? The other folks in the nursing home?) He's cold, ruthless and in control.
Cranston said the transformation of Walt after his cancer diagnosis to now is not that far-fetched.
?I really believe that everybody is capable of good or bad," Cranston, who is nominated for another lead drama actor Emmy, said. "We're all human beings. We're given the spectrum of emotions as complex as they are. Depending on your influences, DNA and parenting, and education and social environment, the best of you can come out, and the worst of you can come out. If given the right set of circumstance and dire situations, any one of us can become dangerous.?
Yes, Walter is the danger. He is the one who knocks. But what fans really want to know is not the specifics about the finale, but if viewers will be left with some measure of resolution when it all ends.
?What I loved about this whole journey is that I was able to be the mouthpiece for (creator/producer) Vince Gilligan. I wanted it to end the exact way that Vince Gilligan wanted it to end,? Cranston told TODAY.com. ?And I can stand here now and say I?m really proud that it has. I think that every fan of 'Breaking Bad' will be satisfied, pleased at the ending. It is very unapologetic and very 'Breaking Bad.' ?

Yes, there is a new foot-deep body of water in the Arctic. But this isn't unusual. This is another Arctic pond caused by seasonal (summer) warming. And the camera lens distorts the size.
"I have seen much more extensive ponding," James Morison, the principal investigator for the North Pole Environmental Observatory told The Atlantic. "Because we use wide angle lenses the melt pond looks much bigger than it is."
Note the use of the word "pond" to describe this body of water.
The Atlantic goes on to note that last summer's Arctic ice melt was one of the worst, and this year's hasn't been as bad, so far. The now-famous pond was the result of an early July heat wave.
"While the rate of Arctic sea ice loss is normally fastest during July, the warmest month of the year, ice loss was even faster than usual over the first two weeks of July 2013," according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center. "Compared to the 1981 to 2010 average, ice extent on July 15, 2013 was 1.06 million square kilometers (409,000 square miles) below average."
Still, global warming is taking a toll on the Arctic, say most scientists. As the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration 2012 Arctic Report Card states: "Large changes in multiple indicators are affecting climate and ecosystems, and, combined, these changes provide strong evidence of the momentum that has developed in the Arctic environmental system due to the impacts of a persistent warming trend that began over 30 years ago."
And as The Christian Science Monitor noted this week, it's not the creation of Arctic ponds that's worrying ? it's the release of methane gas. The release of Arctic methane gas due to warming trends is an "economic time bomb," which could cost the world $60 trillion. Yes, that's trillion ? the equivalent of the world's entire economic output in 2012.
"The Arctic ice stores roughly 50 billion tons of methane, a concentrated gas some 20 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. Over the past few years, scientists have observed the gas pluming from the region?s thawing ice. That raised the question: even as profits are hauled in from shipping and drilling in the Arctic, could that methane gas be waiting to undo all those gains? Could the toll of that released gas far outweigh the rewards of melting Arctic?s ice?"

There's been a deluge of Moto X reports, and it shows no signs of stopping. We've seen the device's press shots, camera UI and benchmark results, and most recently, we've even watched the T-Mobile version waltz past the FCC. Now, we're treated to purported press images and unannounced features from Taylor Wimberly, formerly of Android and Me. According to Wimberly, a sheet of specially treated Gorilla Glass covers the phone's entire face and wraps around its sides, forming a nearly seamless gap with the rear shell. Apparently, it's special enough that Motorola will call it "Magic Glass." As another nod to the phone's toughness, he also claims a laminated aluminum structure makes its frame even stronger, despite being thin and lightweight. Check out the images to decide the report's veracity for yourself, but don't sweat it too much -- we'll be able to confirm it in a few days when the phone launches on August 1st.

Dollar near five-week low, Japan stocks tumble

TOKYO (Reuters) - Tokyo shares fell sharply on Friday on the back of a stronger yen and the dollar languished at a five-week low against a basket of currencies as investors waited for clarity on U.S. stimulus at the Federal Reserve's policy meeting next week.
A Wall Street Journal report that the Fed may debate changing its forward guidance to help ram home its message that it will keep interest rates low for a long time to come put the dollar on the back foot overnight.
But most economists and traders still expect the Fed could start tapering its monetary stimulus in September.
The dollar <.dxy> eased 0.4 percent against a basket of major currencies to be not far from a five-week low touched on Thursday, offering some support to gold and crude prices.
Against the yen, it was down 0.5 percent at a two-week low of 98.750 yen. The euro was steady at $1.32845, after gaining 0.6 percent overnight on the back of positive economic reports from the euro zone.
A gauge of planned U.S. business spending on capital goods rose in June, while new claims for jobless benefits edged higher last week but remained within a range that suggests the labor market's recovery is on track.
JAPAN CPI RISES
The firmer yen weighed on Tokyo's Nikkei share average <.n225>, which sagged 2.1 percent to a two-week low.
"We are seeing the yen strengthening," a Tokyo-based trader said. "There is also the summer fatigue. People are going on holiday and they are closing positions."
Japan's consumer prices rose in June for the first time in more than a year, a positive sign for the government's battle against deflation, but the rises centered on higher electricity bills rather than stronger demand that could drive a durable recovery.
"The rise in the CPI is mainly due to the weaker yen, which is raising import costs, so it's too early to be overly optimistic. But we can say that 'Abenomics' is very much in play," said Nobuhiko Kuramochi, strategist and economist at Mizuho Securities in Tokyo.
But Japanese companies' one-month earnings momentum slowed dramatically this month, to 1.1 percent from 10.1 percent in June, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S, while that for MSCI Asia-Pacific ex-Japan index <.miapj0000pus> deteriorated further to minus 7.1 percent from minus 5 percent.
ASIAN SHARES IN DEMAND
The MSCI Asia-Pacific ex-Japan index advanced 0.6 percent on Friday and Australian shares <.axjo> gained 0.4 percent.
Seoul shares <.ks11> inched up 0.2 percent. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd eased 0.7 percent after its April-June operating profit increased 47.5 percent to 9.5 trillion won ($8.5 billion), in line with its estimate.
In the commodity markets, Brent crude prices added 0.1 percent to just below $108 a barrel after gaining 0.4 percent overnight on the back of the weaker dollar.
Gold added 0.4 percent, extending a 0.9 percent rise in the previous session, also boosted by a weaker dollar.
Copper prices ticked down 0.1 percent but held above $7,000 a tonne. They had slipped 0.6 percent on Thursday, to snap a five-day winning run, on concerns that a slowing Chinese economy may dent demand from the world's top consumer.

Cambridge Nonprofit Moving to Medford - Business - Medford, MA ...
See who?s coming to the city.
Management Sciences for Health, a nonprofit that helps developing countries establish healthcare systems, is moving from Cambridge to 200 Rivers Edge Drive in Medford, Mayor Michael McGlynn announced at the site Tuesday.
The nonprofit will occupy the vacant 40,000-square-foot space remaining in the building, he said.
McGlynn said now that the 115,000-square-foot building is full, developer John Preotle, of Preotle, Lane & Associates, has discussed constructing another building at the site.
State Rep. Paul Donato said the overall site is in its ?embryotic stages? at the press conference.
Greg Bialecki, the state?s secretary of Housing and Economic Development, said the move is good for the state.
?We have to make sure that people don?t only think Boston and Cambridge are where all the great innovation businesses are,? he said.

LONDON (AP) ? His Royal Highness has a name.
Britain's new prince has been named George Alexander Louis, royal officials said Wednesday, ending speculation over what moniker Prince William and his wife, Kate, would pick for their first child.
Kensington Palace said royals are "delighted to announce" their son's name, adding that the 2-day-old baby and third-in-line to the throne will be known as "His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge."
Noble names are steeped in history, which explains why thousands of bets rolled in to British bookmakers for the name George, the name of six previous British kings. The moniker evokes the steadfastness of the queen's father, George VI, who rallied the nation during World War II.
Meaning farmer or earth worker, George was the 12th most popular name for boys born in England and Wales in 2011. St. George, a 4th-century Christian martyr, is the patron saint of England.
The name Louis could be a tribute to Lord Louis Mountbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh's uncle and the last British Viceroy of India before independence in 1947. William's father, Prince Charles, was close with Mountbatten, who was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army in 1979.
The announcement from Prince William and Kate ? just two days after the baby's birth ? was quick, by royal standards.
Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh took a month before settling on the name Charles for the Prince of Wales. Princess Diana and Prince Charles took a week before settling on William's four names.
For now, the littlest royal is expected to stay out of the spotlight after making his first "public appearance" in the arms of his parents outside of London's St. Mary's Hospital on Tuesday.
After leaving the hospital, William and Kate introduced their son Wednesday to great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, who was keen to see the baby before she starts her annual summer vacation in Scotland later this week.
Then the young family headed to see Kate's parents in their village near London.
Now that Kate and William have chosen a name, they are expected to soon choose a photographer for the baby's first official portrait.

Smith, the executive who led the team that created the failed PlayBook tablet, has left the company. A BlackBerry spokesperson confirmed the report, noting that he ?resigned for personal reasons.? Despite releasing two new smartphones running its new BlackBerry 10 operating system, BlackBerry has continued to struggle in the mobile market and recently lost 4 million subscribers. The company recently fired its U.S. sales chief, and a number of other high-level executives have left BlackBerry in recent weeks. The PlayBook failed to compete against the iPad and Android tablets when it was released in 2011, leading BlackBerry to write off nearly $500 million in unsold inventory. The company would later end support for the PlayBook, announcing that?the device will not be updated to BlackBerry 10.

A new position is being created at South Bend Schools that is set to help African American students.
Monday night the school board voted to approve the creation of a new Director of African American Student and Parent Services.
The job comes with a hefty price tag and a lot of responsibilities.
The board voted 5 to 1 to approve the position.
According to school board member Dawn Jones it's designed to lower suspension rates, increase graduation rates and take a look at the special education program.
In the job description, experience working with African American students and participation at schools on all levels is required.
The decision was ultimately pushed forward this spring when the district was cited by the state for placing too many African American students in special education classes.
"We need to identify and find out the need of our children at a young age through the school... to find ways to help to do that to prevent violence and crime," says Reverend Cory Gathright, who served on the committee to create the position.
Right now 40 percent of South Bend students are African American and it's estimated half of those students are in special education classes.

MONTREAL - It was somewhere between Yoenis C?spedes clouting the bejeepers out of Bryce Harper in the Home Run Derby and Chris Sale on the mound in the All-Star game itself, dangling like a skeleton from a coat-hanger and throwing pitches that are outlawed between consenting adults in Georgia.
That?s when it hit me: I miss baseball. Not baseball on television ? even without the pricey packages, there?s more than enough. I mean baseball that is 30 minutes away by m?tro, baseball with players you care about, baseball where you can smell the popcorn, see the second baseman cheating to the bag, dodge the occasional screaming foul ball.
Because baseball may be gone from Montreal ? but it isn?t dead.
Funny how baseball (?poor, schnooky baseball,? George Vecsey once called it) hangs around, even in a town where every 9-year-old can recite the numbers in Ryan White?s contract.
Funny too how the Expos seem more alive today than they did that sad day when they played their last game at the Big O.
If you were watching the Jays and the Rays Saturday afternoon, you probably saw the ExposNation crew in left field, a thousand Expos fans making Major League Baseball sit up and take notice.
?Today,? said Matthew Ross, chairman of the ExposNation Committee, ?was a clear demonstration that Expos fans are still passionate about their team and want baseball back in Montreal.
?Our hope is that this event will lead to sponsorship in order for us to put on related events, to further the cause of bringing a MLB team back here.
?We want to start a season-ticket drive to present to prospective investors and the government.?
A cynic might say the Expos had a stronger presence in Toronto this weekend than they had at the Big O during the last years of their existence ? but this isn?t a time to be cynical.
Personally, I would love to see Major League Baseball back in Montreal and I would do anything in my power to make it happen.
Unfortunately, that ?in my power? does not include the ability to kick in a billion dollars to help revive the Expos.
But my name isn?t Stephen Bronfman, Pierre Karl P?ladeau, Geoff Molson or Guy Lalibert?. There is plenty of goodwill toward an Expos revival waiting to be tapped. It?s a very long way from there to a reborn franchise ? but a deep-pockets investor with a bunch of zeros after his name could close that gap in a hurry.
Meanwhile, out in red-state Alberta: Those were your Montreal Alouettes in Calgary Saturday night, pulling an epic, history-making fold, somehow turning a 24-point first-quarter lead into a 38-27 loss.
We?re tempted to say that, right now, the Expos look more alive than the Alouettes. This was uglier than last call at a trailer-trash roadhouse in Tulsa.
At that, the Als might have pulled it out after blowing the lead ? but with Noel Devine about to score on a kick return, Fred Bennett punched the ball out, Alvin Bowen recovered in the end zone and the Stamps took the ball the other way for a touchdown.
If you didn?t have doubts before, it?s OK to have them now. GM Jim Popp made a brilliant head-coaching hire by thinking outside the box when he brought in Marc Trestman.
This time, he may have gone too far outside the box with Dan Hawkins, a coach with no previous pro experience and little success at the college level.

UPS profit falls on shift to lower cost services

DALLAS (AP) ? UPS said Tuesday that second-quarter profit fell 4 percent as customers shifted from premium toward lower-priced shipped services.
The company called the results disappointing and said it was adapting to the changing market.
Atlanta-based United Parcel Service Co. and rival FedEx Corp. are losing some high-priced business as international shippers switch from premium next-day air deliveries to two-day or three-day services. UPS Chairman and CEO Scott Davis told analysts on a conference call that the shift could be temporary due to a lack of new technology products from Asia.
"On the other hand, some of the trade-down is likely permanent," Davis added, because of improved manufacturing supply chains and more global trade among nearby nations.
For pallet-size international shipments, cargo carriers such as UPS are facing more competition from passenger airlines, which are loading more freight in the bellies of their new, wide-body jets. Since the airlines are operating the flights anyway, they often charge lower freight rates to fill up the cargo holds.
UPS is looking to re-ignite growth by targeting developing countries and growing industries such as health care. It is expanding ship and other inexpensive delivery options, and it is offering new services to consumers such as letting them change the date or address for deliveries for an extra fee. The company has also been trimming costs by retiring older planes and reducing missed deliveries.
"We're managing through a slower economic environment and adapting accordingly," chief financial officer Kurt Kuehn said in an interview.
UPS said that it earned $1.07 billion, or $1.13 per share, down from $1.12 billion, or $1.15 per share, a year earlier.
The delivery company tipped off investors about the headline number two weeks ago, so analysts were expecting the lower earnings per share.
Revenue rose 1.2 percent to $13.51 billion but was lower than expected. Analysts had forecast $13.59 billion, according to a FactSet survey. Costs rose 2 percent.
UPS shares tumbled on July 12 after the company foreshadowed the quarterly results and lowered its full-year outlook. It blamed the shift toward slower but cheaper shipping services, overcapacity in the worldwide air freight business, and slowing in the U.S. industrial sector.
The effect of those changes showed up in disappointing performance in the company's freight-forwarding and international package-delivery businesses. The company's supply chain and freight unit earned 21 percent less in operating profit than a year ago.
The company predicted that earnings per share will grow by between 4 percent and 13 percent during the second half of this year compared with the same period in 2012. UPS still expects a full year adjusted profit of $4.65 to $4.85 per share, which would be an increase from $4.53 per share last year.
UPS, with a fleet of jets and an armada of brown trucks, delivered 15.7 million packages a day during the quarter, up 2.3 percent.
Shares of UPS fell 26 cents to $87.35 in midday trading. They were up 19 percent for the year as of Monday's close.

Youth activists detained while trying to enter US
NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) ? U.S. authorities have detained eight activists who asked to be allowed to re-enter the United States from Mexico on humanitarian grounds in a protest against American immigration policies.
Customs and Border Protection officials detained the activists Monday after they filed applications for humanitarian parole at the Nogales border crossing to try to return to the United States.
CBP officials said they could not comment on specific cases but under immigration law all applicants for admission bear the burden of proof to establish they are eligible to enter the country.
Domenic Powell, a spokesman for the National Immigrant Youth Alliance, said the group hadn't been taken to a detention center as of Monday afternoon.
He said the alliance would continue to pressure federal authorities to let the eight activists "go back home" to the U.S.
Margo Cowan, a lawyer for the group, says she will file asylum applications on behalf of the activists if they are denied humanitarian parole.
On the U.S. side of the border, about 60 people waiting for the activists chanted in Spanish, "No papers, no fear."
Three activists left the U.S. and traveled to Mexico expressly to participate in the protest. The group wants to draw attention to the huge jump in deportations carried out under the Obama administration, and reaffirm their attachment to the country where they were raised.
The first one to be detained was Claudia Amaro Escalera, 37, along with her U.S.-born son Yamil, 13. Amaro Escalera returned to Mexico six years ago after her husband was deported but lived more than 20 years in the U.S. and calls America home.
Cowan said, "This will be a decision to be taken by the Obama administration, maybe not immediately, but I trust it will be the right decision."
Humanitarian parole means the activists can be released with the understanding that they are not a menace to society, she explained.
Lizbeth Mateo, Lulu Martinez and Marco Saavedra were the three youths who recently left the U.S. to organize the protest from Mexico with the National Immigrant Youth Alliance. They were brought to the U.S. illegally as children and have no legal status there even though they grew up in America.
"We cannot ask others to do something we ourselves are not willing to do," Mateo said before getting to the border.
She added the group hopes the Obama administration will create a process so all those who were deported from the U.S. can return.
"We are giving President Obama a chance to do the right thing. They always say, 'Why don't you come here legally?' Well this is his chance to create the legal process."
Members of NIYA such as Mateo have participated in other acts of civil disobedience, one of them in 2010 in the offices of U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. They have also entered detention centers to publicize cases where prisoners are about to be deported without having a criminal record or a legal recourse.
The activists have said that if they were detained, they would do the same in detention centers in Arizona.
Maria Peniche and Adriana Gil Diaz could have benefited from a deferred action program recently offered by the Obama administration that lets young immigrants live in the U.S. on renewable two-year stays, but they had both returned to Mexico City shortly before the measure was announced.
Peniche, who was raised in Boston, Mass., was hoping to continue her university studies in Mexico, because they were too expensive in the U.S.
"I want to give a face and a voice to those who are undocumented immigrants like myself," she said.
Luis Gustavo Leon, 20, said he has been deported from the U.S. four times. He had gone to Mexico two years ago to continue his university studies but did not get used to the lifestyle there. His parents and brothers are all in North Carolina.
"I will keep trying because my family is there, because even though I'm Mexican, my culture is the American culture," he said.
He added he was not afraid of being detained.
"As long as there is hope, I will fight," Leon said. "If they tell me I can't do it, then I'll give up temporarily, but not completely. I'll go back to Mexico but later on I'll find a way to return."

Charlotte church members protest pastor's leadership
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tensions ran high at a north Charlotte church Sunday morning as members protested Pastor Andrew Rollinson?s leadership, saying he was fired nearly three months ago but refuses to leave.
?Rollinson must go!? about a dozen people chanted outside Morningstar Baptist Church at 5623 Phillips St., off West Sugar Creek Road in the Derita area. ?When? Today!?
Rollinson said he has no intention of leaving the church. He said the members who fired him did not follow church bylaws, and therefore the decision is invalid. He did not say how the members violated the bylaws.
?I?m the pastor. I will be the pastor until people want to follow the bylaws,? he said. ?This is a group of irate individuals who want what they want and are not able to get it according to the bylaws, and they became irate.?
Several Mecklenburg County sheriff?s deputies remained parked outside the church for hours Sunday. At least twice, opposing sides of the protest argued face to face before services.
?I?m the pastor,? Rollinson told a group of protesters.
?No, you?re not. You?ve been dismissed,? one responded.
Some of the church?s 200 members say they fired Rollinson in April but that he refuses to leave.
?Due to his character that is not becoming of a pastor, his dishonesty, controlling demeanor, using the pulpit to disrespect his members ... we are removing Pastor Andrew J. Rollinson from his duties effective immediately,? says the April 28 letter signed by five church leaders. ?May God continue to bless you and your family and we hate things had to end this way.?
Since Rollinson was hired three years ago, some at the church say he has given himself more power and used it to ban members who don?t agree with him. Some also say Rollinson has given himself more control over church finances.
?All we want is for him to leave,? said Vernell Miller-Thompson.
Nobody was arrested at the church Sunday.
Deputies told Rollinson that after talking with the Sheriff?s Office attorney, they determined he was not trespassing.
Donald Fontenot, one of Rollinson?s deacons, read a statement Sunday in response to the protest.
?We love our pastor Andrew J. Rollinson and the leadership he brings,? the letter said. ?He has not done anything wrong and he leads us in the fear of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.?
The statement also acknowledges that the church has banned 19 members for reasons including ?violating our First Amendment Right, participating (in) and encouraging a public disturbance (and) continuous outbursts of false accusations from the pew.?
Jackie Black, chairman of the board of deacons, said he?s lost trust in church leadership.
?I have a different perspective on preachers now,? he said. ?I see this as a business for them and not a place of worship.?
By the time services began shortly after 11 a.m., the two sides appeared to have reached a truce. Law enforcement left and many members headed into the church for worship.
Dwayne President, who was attending the church for the first time Sunday, said he did not know which side to believe. He also said the tension was distracting from the true purpose of Sunday.
?Gandhi said, ?I like your Christ. I don?t like your Christians.? I can see why he said that now,? President said. ?I?m apologizing for the church. The church is supposed to be an example and a light amongst nonbelievers.?
Black acknowledged that the drama has taken away from the church?s mission.
He said the church plans to involve its attorney more when drafting a contract for the next pastor to ensure nothing like this happens again.
?We?re going to make sure it?s very specific so nobody can take advantage of us again,? he said.
